$1.07 Acorn Decoration | Days of Chalk and Chocolate

$1.07 Acorn Decoration

Share It:
The other day I was tooling around The Mother Land, I mean Home Goods. I came across a sweet, glittery acorn made from pine cone scales for $5.99. Bargain!  But the longer I looked at it the more I realized it was nothing more than a styroform ball with acorn scales glued on it. Heck, I could do that!  So I did. And I did it in under 30 minutes. Sorry about the blurriness in some of the pictures.

Here is how I did it.  I cracked and cut the scales off pine cones I had found around our apartment. I tired to use the biggest scales. I bought a gold glittery Christmas ornament from Dollar tree and I applied my hot glue gun.

Supplies

Glue one row of scales about 1/4-1/3 of the way down from the top of the ornament.
Start at the bottom so you can shingle the scales.

Keep adding layers on top. Stagger them so they don't line up exactly. They are small so be careful
with your glue gun. Don't be a victim like me.

Gild the lily, I mean the pine cones scales with some gold craft paint. I applied it just on the bottom edges.
Bert is staring at you. He knows what you did last summer.
Tie a large satin bow around the top. Hang from your chandelier or wherevever.  Accept compliments.

We had Molly's 5th birthday party for our family yesterday. More pics to come but she was thrilled and everyone loved our new home. We were so proud to be able to have a great party in it and have everyone be comfortable with enough room to move. The weather was cold but bright and clear so the kids played outside the whole time and I got to catch up with my sisters-in-law who rock.

Hope you all had a great weekend too! Link up your latest and greatest here!

Cheers!

Jenny
